Casual Elegance » About the Artist
Hi, my name is Sue Fleischer.
I am originally from upstate New York with a degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. I have been involved with arts my entire life. Now a resident of Maryland and a professional craftswoman for many years, I have explored pottery, leatherwork, basketry and fiber arts as a weaver and rugmaker.
As a full-time mom, with two young children, I established my first business, Suncraft Designs, in 1978. This collection included original hand-painted T-shirts and sportswear that were exhibited at local craft shows.
Since 1988 I have been exploring the properties and potential of polymer clays. As the artist/owner of Casual Elegance, my line of wearable art and home accessories includes pieces ranging from playful to tailored, from casual to sophisticated, where the essence of every piece is color.
The name Casual Elegance says it all! Polymer clay is a casual material. When handcrafted with precision and good design, the result is a characteristic style that is both casual and elegant.
My work can be seen at many of the finest juried craft shows in Maryland, Virginia, D.C., Pennsylvania and New Jersey. See below for a link to a schedule of shows. I am a member of the National Polymer Clay Guild, the Potomac Polymer Clay Guild and the Baltimore Polymer Clay Guild. I have won many awards for fine craftsmanship and share my expertise and excitement for this craft by participating in polymer clay juried exhibitions and offering a selection of classes at my studio in Baltimore.
